On Thursday, February 12, 2009, at 12:00 Noon at the statue of Abraham Lincoln at the entrance of Lincoln Park, Kennedy Boulevard and Belmont Avenue in Jersey City, First Vice President Mr. Guy Catrillo will host the monument ceremony. Dr. Jules Ladenheim, a Past President of the Lincoln Association, will deliver one of President Lincoln's memorable speeches.
The ceremony will conclude with a placing of a wreath at the statue.
Later that evening at 5:30 PM, the Association will host the One Hundred Forty-fourth Annual Dinner at the Casino in the Park, Lincoln Park, Jersey City. The featured speaker is Mr. James A. Percoco, author, a member of the National Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Advisory Board, and History Educator in Residence at the American University in Washington, D.C. His most recent work is Summers with Lincoln, with an entire chapter on the Lincoln Association of Jersey City. This is a special time because it is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.
Members of the Association have petitioned Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise and Jersey City Mayor Jeremiah Healy to mark the original route of the Lincoln Highway as it traversed the County and City. More information at the Highway website at www.lincolnhigwayassoc.org.
A two hour special, airtime to be announced, "Looking For Lincoln", has been produced for WNET and will be shown on the local PBS television stations (Channel 13 for Jersey City and environs) on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. Members of the Association are participating in the Official Commission to remember the contributions of the citizens of the State of New Jersey in the Civil War. The remembrance functions will begin in 2011 and finish in 2015. Information can be found at www.njcivilwar.org.
